How to deal with peer pressure?
a. Dismiss the question. This method works best when you are offered something you don’t want like drugs, cigarettes, alcohol, etc. Tell them that you are not interested and walk away.
b. Say NO. This might be scary to say, but this is the best way to respond. Say no and stay firm this can save you from being pressured again. Saying no can tell them clearly that you are not interested.
c. Make a joke. You can turn what your friend says into a joke. Example, if your friends asks you is you want to smoke cigarettes you can say forget it, I don’t want bad breath and yellow teeth.
d. Change the subject. When your friend tells you to do something you don’t want to do you can put off the question by changing the subject. Example, when they ask you if you want to go to the club tomorrow night you can say did you try that restaurant that opened last week?
e. Make an excuse to leave. You can get out of a situation by making an excuse to leave quickly. Example, talk to your parents on a phone.
f. Turn the pressure around. Use the opportunity to change their behavior rather than letting them change your behavior. This might be able to help someone you care about.
g. Be careful who you hang out with. To avoid bad peer pressure, you can avoid people who get into situations like that. Even if they are famous, cool, it’s not worthed because most of the time those people don’t care about you.
h. Try to avoid the situation. Even if it seems fun, it is much better to keep yourself safe. You never know what someone is going to do to you or when he or she is going to ask you to do something.
i. Keep yourself busy on doing healthy activities. To avoid peer pressure you can spend you free time doing activities that you enjoy. Find something that you want to do and that will keep you busy.
j. Find better ways to impress people. One of the reason of people getting themselves into peer pressure is to impress your friends . You don’t have to impress your friends by doing something bad you can impress your friend by your other talent. For example: singing, playing the guitar, etc.
